On Thursday, Dec. 16, a few TLC members joined us for a coaches’ clinic. Ben Husaby, Bill Warburton and Brenna Warburton reviewed the fundamentals of skate and classic so they would feel comfortable teaching newcomers correct technique right from the start. With the techniques being refined and new tricks evolving every year, this was a very helpful clinic and we’re confident that the new coaches will be sharing their love for skiing with some newcomers right away.
On Saturday, we had several of our program alumni come up to Meissner to help coach for Learn to Ski Day. About 60 people showed up to learn skate and classic, and almost half were under the age of 12.
We broke up into several groups and skied for just over an hour, giving personal tips to everyone along the way — it’s a really rewarding experience working with complete newcomers who are eager to learn.
The mood at Meissner was upbeat, energized and bustling, as there were about 200 High School skiers there for a race, along with their parents, then the general public and all those who came for the Learn to Ski Day. The parking lot was steadily kept full for hours and everyone on the trails was raving about the new snow and the excellent grooming.
