Rock Climbing

Youth Rock Climbing Programs and Teams

Bend Endurance Academy climbing programs create a lifelong passion for the sport of rock climbing. Our programs give participants the chance to grow as climbers’ and as a team while learning proper climbing technique, safety, risk management, and goal setting.

Our indoor climbing programs operate in partnership with the Bend Rock Gym, which serves as one of our training and practice locations. Bend Endurance Academy Climbing programs also offer the unique opportunity of having our own youth dedicated training center at BEA Headquarters.   With the plentiful crags and boulders in the Central Oregon area, we also offer the option of outdoor climbing trips to the world-class Smith Rock State Park and other local crags. If you don’t see a climbing program that fits your child’s ability or age, we encourage you to look into the great youth programs from our partners at  Bend Rock Gym

Mike has been working with kids in the outdoors for over 15 years and has a degree in Adventure Education and Wilderness Leadership from Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. Mike has worked as a climbing coach, climbing guide, and route setter since 2006.

  • Climbing Program Director
  • Coaching competitive climbing since 2006
  • USA Climbing Level 1 certified coach
  • First Aid CPR
  • American Mountain Guides Association training

Why I coach: I coach because I find it challenging and fun.   The challenging side of coaching is trying to be the best coach for each individual.  For some that means pushing them, for others that means listening, and for all it’s being supportive of them. I like the challenge of trying to figure out which coach each kid needs me to be at that one specific time.

Kelly Williams

Kelly, a Bend Oregon native, has been actively climbing and training for the past four years. She has worked in the outdoor industry since 2009 and has maintained her love and passion for the outdoors. She brings a fun and energetic vibe to the climbing community as well as coaching.

  • 6 years climbing
  • 7 years working in outdoor industry
  • Using climbing specific training techniques for 4 years
  • Currently studying at COCC

Why I Coach?: “For me the most rewarding part of being a climbing coach is not only seeing the kids climbing improve, but also seeing their self-esteem improving as well. When I see a kid gain more confidence after getting to the top of a route that they thought they couldn’t do the emotion in their face says it all.”

Brady Kendrick

Brady earned a Bachelor’s degree in Programming at the University of North Texas. After college, he headed to Colorado and became a rock climbing instructor, coaching a climbing team and leading trips outdoors. For the following year and a half, Brady traveled the western U.S., living on the road, climbing desert towers and classic long multi-pitch routes. Brady has now settled in Bend, Oregon where he continues to share his love for rock climbing with others.

  • American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor
  • Climbing sine 2007
  • Instructing climbing for all ages since 2010
  • Wilderness First Responder

Why I Coach?: “One of the best parts about coaching the BEA climbers is witnessing the positive impact we help make on our participants. When we get another child hooked on the pursuit of climbing, we not only give them confidence on the rock, we also give them more confidence in everyday life.”
