Youth Rock Climbing Programs and Teams

The Bend Endurance Academy Climbing Program strives to be at the forefront of climbing focused youth programming.  Our programs are designed to inspire and fuel the next generation of climbers, and focus on developing well-rounded climbers who respect the climbing community and excel in the sport.   The BEA climbing team consistently has climbers qualify and compete at the national level and has been one of the top 10 youth teams at national championships.

Our climbing coaches bring over 30 years of sport-specific knowledge to the program combined with a professional and holistic approach to coaching and mentoring youth.  We are committed to providing a safe and encouraging place for individuals to grow as athletes. We value hard work, commitment to the team, respect for the sport and a willingness to continually strive for improvement.  Our coaches work hard to be the coach that each individual needs on any given day and support our athletes in all aspects of their development.

Our indoor climbing programs operate in partnership with the Bend Rock Gym, which serves as our climbing program offices and our training and practice location.

With the plentiful crags and boulders in the Central Oregon area, we also offer the option of outdoor climbing trips to the world-class Smith Rock State Park and other local crags.

If you don’t see a climbing program that fits your child’s ability or age, we encourage you to look into the great youth programs from our partners at Bend Rock Gym

Mike has been working with kids in the outdoors for over 20 years and has a degree in Adventure Education and Wilderness Leadership from Johnson State College in Johnson, Vermont. Mike has worked as a climbing coach, climbing guide, and route setter since 2006.

  • Climbing Program Director
  • Coaching competitive climbing since 2006
  • USA Climbing Level 2 certified coach
  • First Aid CPR
  • American Mountain Guides Association training

Why I coach: I coach because I find it challenging and fun.   The challenging side of coaching is trying to be the best coach for each individual.  For some that means pushing them, for others that means listening, and for all it’s being supportive of them. I like the challenge of trying to figure out which coach each kid needs me to be at that one specific time.

Kelly Williams

Kelly, a Bend Oregon native, has been actively climbing and training for the past six years. She has worked in the outdoor industry since 2009 and has maintained her love and passion for the outdoors. She brings a fun and energetic vibe to the climbing community as well as coaching.

  • Coaching climbing since 2012
  • Certified Yoga Teacher
  • Certified Nutritionist
  • USA Climbing Level 2 Coach

Why I Coach?: “For me, the most rewarding part of being a climbing coach is not only seeing the kids climbing improve, but also seeing their self-esteem improving as well. When I see a kid gain more confidence after getting to the top of a route that they thought they couldn’t do the emotion in their face says it all.”

Brady Kendrick

Brady earned a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Programming at the University of North Texas. After college, he headed to Colorado and became a rock climbing instructor, coaching a climbing team and leading trips outdoors. For the following year and a half, Brady traveled the western U.S., living on the road, climbing desert towers and classic long multi-pitch routes. Brady has now settled in Bend, Oregon where he continues to share his love for rock climbing with others.

  • American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor
  • Instructing climbing for all ages since 2010
  • Wilderness First Responder
  • USA Climbing Level 2 Coach

Why I Coach?: “One of the best parts about coaching the BEA climbers is witnessing the positive impact we help make on our participants. When we get another child hooked on the pursuit of climbing, we not only give them confidence on the rock, we also give them more confidence in everyday life.”

Olivia Brumwell

Olivia’s parents built and owned the first climbing gym in central Oregon, and she was lucky enough to grow up and begin her climbing journey there. As part of the first round of BEA climbers, she has been connected with the organization for her 9 years of competing at the national level.

Olivia being a previous competitive athlete not only gives her insight into the physical aspect of climbing, but the mental as well.

Why I Coach?: “I coach because I love watching the athletes become amazing well rounded people, beyond climbers. Seeing them kick butt and challenge themselves inspires me to do the same!”

Bryce Bozovich

We know one thing for sure about Bryce: he is obsessed with rock climbing. Since discovering climbing 4 years ago, he has fully immersed himself in the climbing community. He has worked as a coach, front desk staff, and setter at the Bend Rock Gym. He is beyond stoked to be part of the BEA team this year, and knows that this is the next step towards pursuing a life dedicated towards climbing and sharing that passion with others.

  • CWI – L Certified
  • First Aid Certified
  • CPR Certified
  • Coaching climbing since 2015

Why I Coach?: “When I was a kid, I had a coach that changed my life. I was taught that obstacles are the path to greatness, that failure is an opportunity. I learned that whatever I do with my life, the goal is to be fully engaged. I coach because I want to not only share my passion for climbing, but to positively influence others in the same way my coach did for me.”
